A rose is a woody perennial of the genus Rosa, inside the household Rosaceae. There are over a hundred species. They form a gaggle of erect shrubs, and climbing or trailing crops, with stems which are typically armed with sharp prickles. Flowers are giant and showy, in colours starting from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all extensively grown for his or her magnificence and fragrance. Rose crops range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can attain 7 meters in height. Different species hybridize simply, and this has been used in the improvement of the wide range of garden roses.
